About Us
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at East Carolina University/Brody School of Medicine’s mission is to make eastern North Carolina a healthier place for women and infants to live and thrive.
Respecting our patients and one another along with continuous improvement are foundational to achieving our mission. We seek to develop clinicians who through clinical practice, teaching, service, and research lead regionally in providing obstetric and gynecologic care, becoming a national model for clinically effective and innovative rural women’s health care delivery.
Identifying how we improve care quality or delivery costs, especially in the rural context, is a focus of our practice and research. Our training programs actuate the mission of the Brody School of Medicine to increase the supply of primary care physicians including obstetrician and gynecologists serving North Carolina while training physicians who will meet the health care needs of the state. Indeed, 48% of our residency graduates from the past 18 years are employed in NC, with 31% in eastern NC. Training a workforce of obstetrician gynecologists who will return to disadvantaged communities equipped with high value care practices sustains our mission beyond Greenville. Transparency, collegiality, effective communication, and collaboration are necessary ingredients to our success and highlights of our department culture. We look forward to talking about our programs at ECU Health and the bright future we see for eastern North Carolina.
