The Fellowship

ECU Health Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology has developed a two-year Family Medicine-Obstetrics Fellowship that will train prospective fellows to have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to partner with Obstetrics & Gynecology specialists in the provision of maternal-child health care, specifically in the rural setting.  The fellow will train within the ECU Health system at both a rural hospital site, ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, NC as well as the ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

At the Edgecombe location they will practice and learn alongside experienced OB-Gyn’s in both the clinic, maternity ward, and operating room.  The fellow will gain an understanding of the unique challenges associated with the delivery of maternal-child health care in the rural setting.

At the Greenville site the fellow will spend half their time training at a tertiary care referral hospital.  At this location they will have the opportunity to work alongside OB-Gyn residents on the labor and delivery unit and in the clinic where they will manage high risk obstetrics patients, many of whom have been referred from one of our rural hospital locations.

ECU HealthAdditionally, the fellow will be expected to apply for and work to receive an MPH from ECU Brody School of Medicine Department of Public Health. This program is completely on-line and will allow for a choice from one of three areas of concentration:

  • Epidemiology
  • Health Policy, Administration, & Leadership
  • Community Health & Health Behavior
