Gynecologic Oncology

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is a subspecialty division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Division offers comprehensive care for women with gynecologic malignancy as well as consultation and management of patients with difficult pelvic surgical problems. The scope of gynecologic oncology diseases includes cancer of the ovary, uterus, cervix, vulva and vagina, and gestational trophoblastic disease. Research in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology is focused on the development of new and improved treatments for gynecologic malignancy.

Other interests include studies of new chemotherapy agents and participation in the Gynecologic Oncology Group, a national cooperative organization which develops new therapies for gynecologic malignancy. The mission of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology encompasses the triad of academic medicine: leadership in patient care, teaching of medical students and resident physicians, and pursuit of clinical and basic science research.
