Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency – Our Program
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in ECU Health Medical Center offers a structured four-year program designed to accept residents directly from medical school. The educational program prepares resident physicians for either private practice or an academic career. The Department Program Director is Keith Nelson, MD.
Twenty-three full-time faculty members as well as fifteen community Obstetrician Gynecologists participate actively in student and resident teaching. This combination of academically oriented clinicians and contributing private physicians provides a broad spectrum of patient populations and management techniques. The four year training program includes rotations in emergency medicine, obstetric ultrasound, maternal fetal medicine, gynecology oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility as well as benign gynecology. Scheduled teaching conferences complement an organized program for directed self-learning.
Residencies in all of the major specialties exist. In addition to Ob/Gyn, they include Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Pathology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Family Practice. Fellowships in Pathology, Endocrinology, Neonatology, Cardiology, Cytology, Pulmonary.
